Brief introduction to valve fire resistance test

The valve fire test is a test used to evaluate the pressure performance of the valve in or in the case of fire, and the verification basis is the internal and external leakage of the valve after the test. In the case of flammable and explosive conditions, the valve must still have operational performance and certain sealing performance after a certain time. Therefore, it is necessary to do a fire test on the valve, and the fire test needs to be refined in a number of aspects: operation test, low pressure test after cooling, external leakage during fire, and internal leakage during fire.

API is short for American Petroleum Institute. API607 and API6FA are fire resistance tests for valves 6D and 6A. Generally, 6D valves that can only rotate 90° need to do API607, while others need to do API6FA.

API607 is used for soft sealing of valve seat material, API6FA is used for hard sealing of valve seat material.

API 607/6FA Valve fire test coverage:

API607 and API6FA coverage is different, the way of coverage is mainly divided into size coverage, pressure level coverage, material coverage and other aspects. There is a large difference in the choice of test pressure, among which, the low test pressure specified by API607 is 0.2MPa, the maximum allowable use pressure of 75% when the high test pressure is 20 degrees, and the low test pressure and high test pressure specified by API6FA are related to the valve pound class. API607 stipulates that ferritic test valves can cover austenitic and biphase steel valves, but intermediate size valves in the coverage area also need to pass the test.

Detailed process of API607 fire certification:

First of all, the drawing design is submitted to the third party for review, and then contact the test institution, fill in the commissioned test data to provide a full set of product design and manufacturing data and certification, determine the test time, the personnel of the witness institution witness the fire test results on site, the test institution issues the fire test report, and the third party issues the fire test certificate with the report. The key is that the size and pressure of the prototype should be reasonable. 607 to achieve full coverage of at least 9 specifications of the prototype, 6FA to achieve full coverage of at least 11 specifications of the prototype, participated in many field fire tests, the test can be certified after passing the test
